Understanding Jam' (Joining)
Combining prayers is a validity concession granted for specific reasons. It allows:
- Dhuhr & Asr: Prayed together during Dhuhr time (Jam' Taqdim) or Asr time (Jam' Ta'khir).
- Maghrib & Isha: Prayed together during Maghrib or Isha time.
- Fajr: Can NEVER be combined.
Scholarly Spectrum
Strict (Hanafi)
Only allowed during Hajj. For travel, use "Apparent Combining" (delay first prayer to end of time, pray second at start).
Moderate (Shafi'i/Maliki)
Allowed for long-distance travel and heavy rain.
Flexible (Hanbali)
Allowed for travel, rain, illness, fear, and sometimes pressing need/work (if not a habit).
